The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act provides special services for students to address the special needs he or she may have while displaced. The McKinney-Vento Act defines "homeless children and youth" as individuals who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence. This includes those who are sharing housing with others (doubled up with a friend or relative), living in motels or camp grounds, living in emergency shelters, as well as those having no address because they are living in a car, public space or abandoned building.
If you suspect a student is homeless, please fill out the following form and return it to Shynea Paris, District Liaison to the Homeless, at sparis@waterbury.k12.ct.us.
